Spring 2022 pickleball league registration is open!

Overview of League Play: There will be a 7-week evening doubles league held on Tuesdays, beginning May 17 and concluding June 28 (rain dates will be Wednesdays of each week). As part of the league registration, registrants may attend a free and optional "Introduction to Pickleball" class for beginners, to be held on Thursday, May 12 from 6:30pm - 7:30pm. A free and optional class for intermediate/advanced players will be offered the same day from 5:30pm - 6:30pm.

Once team registration closes, we will place teams in divisions based on skill levels. Please see the USA Pickleball website on player skill levels to determine your team's skill level.

Free & Optional Pre-League Clinic May 12th:

• All paid league participants are encouraged to take advantage of our the appropriate free clinic that will be run the Thursday prior to start of league play
• INTERMEDIATE & ADVANCED "Pickleball for Intermediate/Advanced Players": Thursday, May 12, 5:30pm - 6:30pm
• BEGINNER "Introduction to Pickleball": Thursday, May 12, 6:30pm - 7:30pm

League Play Details for All Divisions May 17th - June 28th:

• League play is each Tuesday, starting May 17th through June 28th
• Rain dates will be on Wednesdays; if that is rained out also, the week will be canceled and any standings will be adjusted for the total # of matches played at the end of the Spring league. Please be sure to see our notes on weather policy.
• Schedules will be posted online, in advance of league play, and also posted at the courts.
• Games for all leagues will be scheduled to to be played between 6pm and 8pm, and teams will typically play 3 games per night.
• Refer to the details below for information on our policies for weather delays and cancellations.

Note:  If you are placed in one division and find during play that it is not the best fit for you, we will attempt to move you. Please contact our volunteers and we will do our best! 

• Program play is open to all players ages 14 & up, however we currently do not have the facility, quantity of interest, or accommodations for differently-abled (i.e., handicapped) players.
• Teams will be split into three divisions based on skill level:  Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced.  Your team's division will be determined using a combination of self-assessments and suggestions from the Viking Backers volunteer staff.
• Before registration, please perform a self-assessment based on the USA Pickleball website for each player on your team and have this information available for input at time of payment.
• If you are a single player and would like our assistance finding a teammate, please contact us at pickleball@vikingbackers.org, indicate your skill level, and we will attempt to find a partner at a similar skill level for you from our substitute list.

$300 per team (2 people), which includes two Viking Backers Pickbleball t-shirts

All league players must:

1. Register online through the Viking Backers Website; registrations are per team, not per individual.
2. Make payment at time of registration.
3. Submit the signed waiver via email or at the first date of play; no player may participate without a physically signed waiver. Details will be provided once registration is confirmed.

Payment Options, Paperwork, and Refunds

• Payment is due once registration opens; all payments are online. Teams may not start to play without an online payment and completed waivers.
• 90% of the total fee will be refunded if requested by 9:00pm May 5th
• 50% of the total fee will be refunded if if requested between 9:01pm May 5th to 9:00pm June 1st
• No refunds will be offered after 9:00pm June 1st
• Refunds can take up to 4 weeks to process

Cancellations / Weather Impacts

• All Tuesday night play, if canceled due to weather, will be attempted Wednesday night; if play cannot happen, that week will be skipped and each player will be issued a $10 Mount Hebron Concession Card at the end of the season
• Obvious weather cancelations will be communicated by email to the league participants no later than 60 minutes before start time
• During-event cancelations will be at the sole discretion of the MHHS Viking Backers and will be made with the safety of all players in mind. We cannot make individual decisions about games in play at the time of a cancelation, should it happen between 6:00pm and 8:00pm of league play nights; the burden of deciding whether a game counts or not must be by CONSENSUS (i.e., every person involved in the game voting) about whether the game in progress should count or not. Please be sure to communicate with a Viking Backers volunteer. We ask that you please respect the decision of the Volunteer, due to our insurance policies for activities on school properties
• If one or more players or teams cannot attend the Wednesday make-up, those matches will not be held, and will not be included in standings. Remaining teams available can scrimmage as availability allows.

Substitutes

• Substitute players are allowed at no extra cost as long as the waiver for each substitute has been completed before play.
• A team may have unlimited subs available at no extra cost, but only 2 players can play on the court at any time. 

Provided Equipment

• The Pickleball Program will provide nets and balls for program play.

Players Provide

• Players should plan to bring their own paddles, hydration, and appropriate footwear
• A limited number of paddles will be available to borrow on a first-come/first-serve basis
